EX SENATOR CALLS FOR RESTORATION OF DEMOCRATIC GOVERNANCE IN RIVERS STATE

 

A former federal lawmaker, who represented Rivers East Senatorial District in the Senate, Senator Andrew Uchendu, has exclusively told NewsKingNaija the need for President Bola Tinubu to cut short his declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State.


Senator Uchendu, at his Port Harcourt residence on Monday, frowned at the declaration of emergency rule by President Tinubu on May 18, just a few days after he mandated members of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) to broker peace between the suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his estranged godfather and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.


"You know I was once in the parliament, and the parliament has endorsed the declaration of the state of emergency, rightly or wrongly. Since then, many prominent Nigerians have condemned it and I will advise Mr President to listen to the voice of the people in his second year anniversary to cut short the emergency


rule", he said.

The former House of Representatives member who represented Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency also added that Gov. Fubara has shown great humility in his actions since the crisis started.

"In all that has happened so far, the governor (Fubara) has shown that he is a man of humility and a man of peace....

He also argued that the 1999 Constitution (as amended) did not make provision for this kind of declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.


Chief Uchendu also predicted that the All Progressives Congress would implode at a point as it happened to the Peoples Democratic Party, when asked about the influx of elected officials into the ruling APC.

Nigeria Cannot Afford a One Party System

  It is not a secret that the ruling APC is bent on destroying the opposition and coast home in the 2027 General Election. FIFA U20 World Cup: Argentina Await Flying Eagles Battle in Round of 16

  The Flying Eagles of Nigeria will take on Argentina in the round of 16 of the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.
