Arokodare: from the rustic Wasinmi to global attention

 



When he scored the equaliser for the Super Eagles agaiasnt Russia Friday night in Moscow, Tolu Arokodare announced himself to the world once again as he jostles now to be among the Super Eagles' strikers.


It's early days to say Tolu should be a starter ahead of the more established Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman or even Cyriel Dessers, who is also knocking the door for a starting place in the men's senior national team.

Former Nigerian International Segun Odegbami, MON, would be beaming with smiles now as Arokodare is a product of his Academy, located in his very community, Wasinmi, a rustic Egba village along Abeokuta- Lagos Expressway.


Arokodare made his Nigeria debut in the 75th minute against Rwanda in Kigali, where the Eagles won 2-0 in a 2026 World Cup qualifier.

Odegbami, who scored 23 goals in 47 appearances for Nigeria (1976–1981), lauded Arokodare’s inclusion, tipping him for success with the Super Eagles.

“Arokodare, one of our students, was impressive during his time here. We have many players like him because we maintain high-quality standards.

“There are others at the academy who will also excel. Tolu’s inclusion in the national team shows he is an exceptional talent.


KRC Genk forward, Tolu Arokodare won the top scorer award in the Belgian Pro League for the 2024/25 season. Arokodare registered 21 goals and six assists in 40 league appearances for the Thorsten Fink's side.

Nigeria Cannot Afford a One Party System

  It is not a secret that the ruling APC is bent on destroying the opposition and coast home in the 2027 General Election. It has dismantled the the opposition PDP and the upcoming ADC that Nigerians fear that the 2027 elections might just be a coronation exercise despite their displeasure with the ruling party. FIFA U20 World Cup: Argentina Await Flying Eagles Battle in Round of 16

  The Flying Eagles of Nigeria will take on Argentina in the round of 16 of the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile. The Nigerian lads finished third in Group  to earn a place as one of the best losers after a pulsating 1-1 draw against Colombia early Monday morning.
