La Decima: Naira Rain for Rivers Angels after winning 10th FA Cup
Rivers Angels are now 50 million Naira richer thanks to the Administrator of Rivers State, Ibok Ekwe-Ibas (retd), who hailed their 10th Women's President Federation Cup as "unprecedented" in a statement issued on Saturday.
Ibas, who spoke through the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Ibibia Lucky Worika, also promised to redeem the pledge made to winner of medals at the recently concluded National Sports Festival held in Ogun State.
The Statement issued by the Director of Press Office of the SSG, Dr Juliana Masi, described the victory of Rivers Angels, as a good omen for Rivers State.
“This is absolutely unprecedented. There’s nothing like it. We are proud as Rivers men and women that our girls can put up such a feat, and we are proud as a government.
“His Excellency, the Administrator, sent me here to encourage the girls at this final. So, I think it’s a wonderful thing. It’s a great feeling, and there are no words to describe it.
“Before the match, I also conveyed His Excellency’s best wishes to the team. I told them that the Rivers State Government is very proud that you are even here in the finals and that if you do your best, you can be absolutely certain that Rivers State Government is going to recognise you,” he stressed.
The SSG conveyed the administrators promise of ₦50 million to the Rivers Angels and used the avenue to encourage Team Rivers athletes who won medals during the 2024 National Sports Festival to remain coordinated as the government was working on redeeming the pledge to them.
The team manager of Rivers Angels, Mrs Matilda Otuenne, noted that the team had been dedicated and hardworking to achieve the feat.
You will recall that Rivers Angels fought back from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw in regulation and extra time and won it 4-2 on penalties at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos on Saturday for their 10th title.
