Nigerian British University Maiden Inaugural Lecture Calls for Africa Model Artificial Intelligence




Prof Ekpe Okorafor, the Dean Faculty of Computing and Information Technology of the Nigerian British University, Asa, Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State has expressed the need for Africa to adopt its own version of Artificial Intelligence tools.

In the maiden inaugural lecture of the institution of Wednesday, Prof Okorafor, in a lecture titled: "Igniting African Renaissance in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Reclaiming Innovation and Re-imagining Futures", urged Africans to realise the full potential of AI.

Prof Okorafor also disclosed that in 2030 22  percent of the global workforce would lose their jobs due to AI but also assured our correspondent that where there would be some loss of jobs, other jobs would also be created through meticulous use of AI.

He warned that Africa would lose out in the use of AI for problem solving if they continue to use use data where they did not contribute to in research. He also proposed " a contextualised AI development framework tailored to African priorities, including education, public service delivery, and innovation ecosystems. through  a structured methodological assessment and synthesis of ongoing initiatives,..."

on his part, the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academics, Prof Innocent Uwah, warned about the wrong use of AI, especially by the undergraduates for their studies.


The Vice Chancellor, Prof Hakeem Fawehinmi, also assured that the institution is set to lead in the innovation of Africa home grown AI solutions.


The lecture had in attendance lecturers, non academic staff and the undergraduates.

Nigeria Cannot Afford a One Party System

  It is not a secret that the ruling APC is bent on destroying the opposition and coast home in the 2027 General Election. It has dismantled the the opposition PDP and the upcoming ADC that Nigerians fear that the 2027 elections might just be a coronation exercise despite their displeasure with the ruling party. FIFA U20 World Cup: Argentina Await Flying Eagles Battle in Round of 16

  The Flying Eagles of Nigeria will take on Argentina in the round of 16 of the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile. The Nigerian lads finished third in Group  to earn a place as one of the best losers after a pulsating 1-1 draw against Colombia early Monday morning. Captain, Daniel Bameyi scored from the penalty spot for his consecutive penalty goal to rescue a point against Colombia, who had scored earlier.
