Former Green Eagles Winger Segun Odegbami Sends Ikhana SOS

 


Former Nigerian international Chief Segun Odegbami, MON, has raised alarm over the health challenges facing a former teammate Kadiri Ikhana, who is critically sick at the moment.

The former Super Eagles defender and 1980 Africa Cup of Nations winner, Kadiri Ikhana, is currently receiving treatment  at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital in Auchi, Edo State, where he was transferred for emergency blood transfusion and intensive medical care.

The 68-year-old ex-international, who was a member of the Green Eagles squad that won Nigeria’s first AFCON title in Lagos 44 years ago, is in critical condition and requires urgent medical intervention to save his life.


Chief Odegbami, in a personal note sent to our correspondent, noted that it was frustrating to see former Nigerian athletes suffer in their latter years due to neglect- living in poverty, pain and poor health. He added that in the past five months, five of former Nigerian internationals, including Christian Chukwu and Peter Rufai, have died at relatively young age. 


Chief Odegbami, fondly called  "Mathematical", said" these deaths may not be unconnected with the consequences of over flogging our bodies during our sports careers." He, however, appealed to the Edo State Government, the National Sports Commission, Nigeria Football Federation and kind hearted Nigerians to intervene and come to the aid of the former defender and Sharks FC and Enyimba FC coach.


Ikhana led Enyimba FC to the CAF Champions league trophy in 2003- the first time ever for a Nigerian clubside.

Nigeria Cannot Afford a One Party System

  It is not a secret that the ruling APC is bent on destroying the opposition and coast home in the 2027 General Election. It has dismantled the the opposition PDP and the upcoming ADC that Nigerians fear that the 2027 elections might just be a coronation exercise despite their displeasure with the ruling party. FIFA U20 World Cup: Argentina Await Flying Eagles Battle in Round of 16

  The Flying Eagles of Nigeria will take on Argentina in the round of 16 of the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile. The Nigerian lads finished third in Group  to earn a place as one of the best losers after a pulsating 1-1 draw against Colombia early Monday morning. Captain, Daniel Bameyi scored from the penalty spot for his consecutive penalty goal to rescue a point against Colombia, who had scored earlier.
