Search for Common Ground Launches Projects in Communities in Rivers State




As part of efforts to bridge infrastructural gaps and empower communities, an international NGO, Search for Common Ground, has inaugurated empowerment programmes and projects in some selected communities in Rivers State.

Sunny Dada, the Mass Media and Information Management Coordinator of Search for Common Ground, in a statement, disclosed that the project, under the Community Centred Approach to Transforming Criminality in the Niger Delta, being implemented in 66 Communities and 33 local government areas of Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta States, aimed to reduce criminality through empowerment of the people in the communities.



Dada noted that the initiative in partnership with PIND and SDN, includes "execution of various livelihood  support  projects designed to address both economic needs and local infrastructure gaps. These include the construction of cassava and  palm oil processing mills, markets, lock-up stores, installation of solar-powered boreholes, provision of fishing nets, and the provision of solar toilets".


He added that the "these  interventions which were directly nominated by the project communities, represent a body of local solutions and responds to the sustainable development goals."


Some beneficiaries are also undergoing skills training such as ICT, fashion designing, pipeline welding and fabrication, to increase the employability of the youths and reduce criminality. 


Some of the projects are sited in Sogho Community in Khana, Ogbakiri in Emohua and Mbiama in Ahoada West Local Government Areas of Rivers State.

  It is not a secret that the ruling APC is bent on destroying the opposition and coast home in the 2027 General Election. FIFA U20 World Cup: Argentina Await Flying Eagles Battle in Round of 16

  The Flying Eagles of Nigeria will take on Argentina in the round of 16 of the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile. The Nigerian lads finished third in Group  to earn a place as one of the best losers after a pulsating 1-1 draw against Colombia early Monday morning.
