Goals Galore as EPL Returns



It was goalfest in the opening weekend of the English Premier League for the 2025/26 season. Liverpool kicked off their title defense with a 4-2 win over Bournemouth. Hugo Ekitike opened his EPL account for Liverpool in the match. Cody Jakpo,  Federico Chiesa and Mo Salah ensured that Anfield rocked at the end of th day on Friday 15 August. Semenyo with a brace had cut the lead of Liverpool who had been cruising in the encounter.


On Saturday, former champions Manchester City cruised to a 4-0 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers with Erling Halaand scoring twice. Sunderland were the surprise package of Day One of the EPL season with a comprehensive 3-0 bashing of West Ham United. The newly promoted side had gone on a spending spree and made former Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka their new captain.


ten-man Aston Villa forced troubled Newcastle United to a 0-0 draw while Fulham scored a last-gap equaliser to earn a 1-1 draw at Brighton Hove and Albion's Amex Stadium. Newcastle have been troubled recently with the Alexandre Isak issue. The Swede wanted out having recEIved a head turning Liverpool offer. The saga is still on as the player vowed not to lace his boots for the side any longer and the side refusing to sell.

Richarlison scored two worldlies as Tottenham Hotspur defeated a hapless Burnley 3-0 in North London while Chelsea were held to a 0-0 draw by Crystal Palace in a London derby. Eberechi Eze had his freekick goal ruled out  by VAR with Marc Guehi deemed to have committed a foul in the build up to the goal.


The much anticipated fixture of Day One of the EPL opener at Old Trafford between the perennial rivals Manchester United and Arsenal ended in favour of the visitors 1-0 courtesy a header by Riccardo  Calafiori in the 13th minute. It was al familiar as Arsenal had got the better of the other side in recent seasons.


Later on Monday, another EPL returnee, Leeds United will play host to Everton.

Nigeria Cannot Afford a One Party System

  It is not a secret that the ruling APC is bent on destroying the opposition and coast home in the 2027 General Election. It has dismantled the the opposition PDP and the upcoming ADC that Nigerians fear that the 2027 elections might just be a coronation exercise despite their displeasure with the ruling party. Good for PDP, some people might say, as the then ruling party from 1999 till 2015 introduced impunity into politics. It was then a Behemoth that swallowed all-30 Governors and a trifecta majority in the House of Reps and Senate and the states. The then Chairman late Audu Ogbeh boasted of ruling for 60 years!  They were years when election results were declared in Aso Rock bedrooms and not the constitutionally empowered INEC. FIFA U20 World Cup: Argentina Await Flying Eagles Battle in Round of 16

  The Flying Eagles of Nigeria will take on Argentina in the round of 16 of the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile. The Nigerian lads finished third in Group  to earn a place as one of the best losers after a pulsating 1-1 draw against Colombia early Monday morning. Captain, Daniel Bameyi scored from the penalty spot for his consecutive penalty goal to rescue a point against Colombia, who had scored earlier.
