Spurs Suffer Summer Slam

Tottenham Hotspur have suffered seemingly what should have been straightforward business this summer. It happened in the past.

They were to sign Willian who had arrived in London and done medical with them. Then Chelsea pounced and the rest is history. Also, their reliable captain Sol Campbell wound down his contract and off to, of all teams, their bitter North London rivals, Arsenal.

Earlier this summer, Spurs thought to have captured Ben Gibbs-White all for Nottingham Forest to backtrack and renew the player's contract. Spurs actually triggered the release clause and Forest cried foul for an alleged insider's betrayal.

Just on Wednesday, Eberechi Eze was set to be unveiled before an accident happened at Arsenal. Before then, Arsenal had courted their former trainee but were looking to sell before buying. Also, they renewed Ethan Nwaneri- a seeming deputy to Martin Odegaard and sometimes Bukayo Saka on the right. All that changed when it was reported that Kai Havertz got injured in training and clould be for long term.

One of the reasons Arsenal fell short last season was due to lack of fire power upfront as they all got injured in the second half of the season. It took Mikel Merino to fill in that gap, albeit fairly well.

As at today, Eze is set to be unveiled as new Arsenal player as he immediately jettisoned all plans to join Spurs. He had stated his preference for his boyhood club. Eze is now having his medical and is set to join Arsenal in a deal worth almost 70 million pounds.

The ball is now in the court of Mikel Arteta as he no longer has any excuse not to get a silverware having strengthened in all areas this summer.
