Nigeria Out of CAF Confed Cup, Remo Stars, Rivers Utd Advance in CAF Champions League

 



Kwara United and Abia Warriors have been bungled out of the CAF Confederation Cup. Both sides lost on aggregate to their opponents on Sunday.

Kwara United lost 1-0 at home to Ashanti Kotoko to end up with a 5-3 aggregate loss having lost 4-3 penultimate weekend in Kumasi. It was lost hope for the FA Cup winners having raised the hope of Nigerians after a battling performance in Ghana.

Also, Abia Warriors had a slim hope having been held to a 0-0 draw by Djoliba of Mali in the first leg. However, the Abia side lost 2-1 in the return leg of the preliminary round on Sunday.

On the contrary, Remo State defeated Zilimadjou of Comoros 1-0 away on Friday to advance on 5-0 aggregate having won the first leg at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta penultimate weekend. Rivers United also saw off Les Aigles of DRC Congo 1-0 on Sunday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo to advance on the same aggregate scoreline after the first leg in Kinshasa ended 0-0. Steven Manyo scored the only goal deep in added time of first half.

The mixed results over the weekend means no Nigerian club remain in the CAF Confederation Cup and never won it in this format since it started over 20 years ago. Nigeria's best chance was in 2005 when the then Dolphin FC of Port Harcourt, now metamophorsed to Rivers United, lost 3-1 on aggregate to RAF of Morocco.

Enyimba FC won the CAF Champions League back to back in 2003 and 2004 and that was the only time Nigeria has won the trophy. It's been downhill since then even as CAF introduced the money spinning group phase of the CAF Champions League.

Nigeria Cannot Afford a One Party System

  It is not a secret that the ruling APC is bent on destroying the opposition and coast home in the 2027 General Election. It has dismantled the the opposition PDP and the upcoming ADC that Nigerians fear that the 2027 elections might just be a coronation exercise despite their displeasure with the ruling party. FIFA U20 World Cup: Argentina Await Flying Eagles Battle in Round of 16

  The Flying Eagles of Nigeria will take on Argentina in the round of 16 of the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile. The Nigerian lads finished third in Group  to earn a place as one of the best losers after a pulsating 1-1 draw against Colombia early Monday morning. Captain, Daniel Bameyi scored from the penalty spot for his consecutive penalty goal to rescue a point against Colombia, who had scored earlier.
