Pilex Centre Drags Indorama Nigeria to Court Over Sacked Staff

 


The Pilex Centre for Civic Education Initiative has dragged Indorama Nigeria, operators of Indorama Petrochemicals and Indorama Fertiliser and Urea to the National Industrial Court sitting in Port Harcourt over what it called "summary dismissal of one contract staff, Josiah Okpabi, without due process."

Pilex Centre in a statement issued on Friday by its Coordinator Courage Nsirimovu, disclosed that Indorama exposed the said contract staff, Josiah to chemicals in the fertiliser plant without any safety tools in place.

Nsirimovu alleged that Indorama engaged in unfair labour practices capable of violating right to life and dignity of human person. it also said the chemicals the staff was exposed to could cause cancer, respiratory disease among others. It noted that while Indorama provided tools and allowances for its full time staff but failed to do same for its contract staff.

When contacted, the Head Corporate Communications, Indorama Nigeria, Justice Bibiye, declined to comment on the allegation since the matter is alreay in a court of competent jurisdiction.

H, however, assured that Indorama Nigeria ensures the best global practices in its operations and staff welfare.

Nigeria Cannot Afford a One Party System

  It is not a secret that the ruling APC is bent on destroying the opposition and coast home in the 2027 General Election. It has dismantled the the opposition PDP and the upcoming ADC that Nigerians fear that the 2027 elections might just be a coronation exercise despite their displeasure with the ruling party. FIFA U20 World Cup: Argentina Await Flying Eagles Battle in Round of 16

  The Flying Eagles of Nigeria will take on Argentina in the round of 16 of the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile. The Nigerian lads finished third in Group  to earn a place as one of the best losers after a pulsating 1-1 draw against Colombia early Monday morning.
