Port Harcourt Residents Decry, Mutiple Police Check Points, Harassment







In a recent interview, several residents of Port Harcourt expressed growing concern over the increasing number of police checkpoints across the city, describing the situation as alarming. According to the residents, these checkpoints appear to serve purposes beyond their intended function. They allege that instead of maintaining law and order or ensuring public safety, some officers are engaging in activities that deviate from their official mandate.

The residents further stated that the conduct of some police personnel suggests a lack of effective oversight, which they find deeply troubling. “It feels like there is no control or accountability, and that is a scary reality,” one resident remarked.
In an interview with our correspondent, Joshua Ayah, multiple individuals reported that police officers stationed at these checkpoints are extorting commercial bus drivers, displaying aggressive and authoritarian behavior, and harassing commuters. 
They described the environment at many of these checkpoints as tense and intimidating, contributing to a climate of fear rather than safety.
The residents are calling on the relevant authorities to urgently review the operation of these checkpoints and ensure that the actions of law enforcement personnel align with the legal and ethical responsibilities entrusted to them.
The Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe Koko, is yet to respond to the allegations as at the time of filing this report.

FIFA U20 World Cup: Argentina Await Flying Eagles Battle in Round of 16

  The Flying Eagles of Nigeria will take on Argentina in the round of 16 of the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile. The Nigerian lads finished third in Group  to earn a place as one of the best losers after a pulsating 1-1 draw against Colombia early Monday morning.
