This Corntry: Agbado Series 3
The Return of "Abacha Badge"
What we have witnessed in recent times is the return of the dark days of Abacha's regime. At the height of his power then, every who is who in Nigeria- from Daniel Kanu to Daniel Amokachi- wore the Abacha Badge. These also include Army Generals, whose first loyalty to country was conveniently jettisoned to loyalty to a maximum ruler. Abacha denied Nigeria the defense of the AFCON in 1996, a trophy the Super Eagles might have won easily looking at the quality of the squad and that of the oppositions. South Africa won it in Nigeria's absence.
That is by the way, pictures of councillors in one local government area of Rivers State went viral last week. The awkwardly looking councillors wore ill-fitting "Tinubu cap" for their swearing in ceremony. The poor councillors have been corraled to put omn the caps, hurriedly obtained m=without measurement to please the god of Aso Rock or his FCT messenger. The point was made. Afterall, the meals or the posts were handed to them on a platter. Someone just sat in a place and dished out 23 Chairmen and deputies and the over 300 councillors to his people.
The new level of fawning, genuflecting and Babasopecracy is benumbing for a man that prided himslef as a democrat.. Nowadays, the only song allowed is .. On ya mandate... made popular by the garrulous FCT boss... Opposition are no longer allowed since this so called democrat mounted the saddle of our nation. But these guys fail to learn from history.. And for that I recommend Segun Adeniyi's Last 100 Days in Office of Abacha... It didn't end well...
PBAT is off once again to France and UK for another "working holiday", an euphemism for his penchant to leave his duty post without proper hand over of power to his deputy. he has now done over two years ab taken several leaves without a handover.. He could not even heed the advice of beloved Morayo to hand over for six month so that he can perform the magic-- She meant the VP whom she accused of power hunger as if that is peculiar to him..
The ADC seems to be the only credible opposition for now but the FG deploys all its might to destabilise it. From denying them recognition to sending thugs to disrupt their meetings, the Maximum Ruler is trying very hard to prove a point. Opposition governors too have been sent scampering for safety having leant from the Fubara experience that the man can put you out for any reason. Fubara got booted out of office for his disagreement with his godfather and has now been fed the humble pie. He might soon return as governor but stripped of all powers and dignity.
